ROME – We meet the artist Sandro Frinolli Puzzilli in the capital, as part of the prestigious activities produced by the “il Collezionista” gallery, with whom we have a very pleasant dialogue in order to discover and reveal to our readers some information to our readership, as well as a series of works she produced and exhibited.

- When did you discover his artistic vocation?

My feeling for artistic expression, before arriving at painting, manifested itself as a teenager, initially through photography. During my career as a photographer I have ventured into various sectors, fashion, advertising, portraits, I have directed courses and workshops. To satisfy my other passion, travelling, I switched to travel and nature photography, writing articles for the major Italian magazines in the sector. I immediately saw the transition to digital as a further possibility to investigate photographic representations, giving additional space to creativity and imagination. Some time ago I definitively switched to painting following an instinctive and natural evolution.

- Which artist and/or cultural current was particularly important for your education?

Impressionism certainly had more influence than other genres and pictorial styles in making me fall in love with painting. I believe that studying and loving the painters of that historical and artistic period at the end of the 19th century in France influenced, at least in part, me to find the most congenial expressive path in relation to my ideas and technical abilities.

Beyond the Impressionists, I loved the works of Vincent Van Gogh, admiring his courage to overturn, with his full-bodied brushstrokes, the usual use of color without being influenced by the technical dictates of the time, allowing his style to be recognizable, leaving an indelible mark. in the history of art and laying the foundations of expressionism.

- What should an artist represent with his art?

I can't say whether an artist must necessarily represent something symbolic on an artistic or social level. I am more inclined to think that following one's creative instinct and aesthetic taste is more in line with the freedom of expression that has always characterized making art. In other words, art should represent, through personal linguistic and expressive research, one's emotions, conveying them within an artistic project, creating an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and what we want to communicate.

- What inspires you most about the world around you? And in which moments do you find the best atmosphere to express your creative ideas?

Nature is a great source of inspiration for me, I have always found the emotions, not only visual, that natural scenarios can give fascinating, stimulating creative dynamics in me and the consequent desire to create pictorial narratives.

The moments in which I find the atmosphere to nourish my inspiration are in the evening and even more so at night which, with its silences, favors concentration. If instead we talk about seasons, except the summer during which my artistic production slows down considerably, the other seasons all have a particular charm and a unique character with a preference towards autumn for its warm and welcoming colours.

– What techniques do you prefer to create his works?

I started by painting with watercolors and then moved on to oil and acrylic colours, moving more and more towards the latter because they dry very quickly and being someone who loves to paint in one go, I consider not having to wait for them to dry as a great advantage, furthermore they can be used on different surfaces although I prefer working on canvas. I use brushes and spatulas interchangeably and I like to experiment with other tools such as sponges and rollers.

I also create digital paintings using tablets and graphic pens, using digital technology as an integral part of the creative process, printing the final file on canvas and obtaining a unique copy certified as a classic painting.
